J Carrier is an independent photographer based in Jerusalem, Israel.

After graduating from Penn State with a degree in biology, J went on to become a drummer in a punk-blues band, recorded a couple of albums and toured throughout the US and Europe. But it was only after his immersion in South American culture while living in Ecuador as a Peace Corps volunteer that he discovered photography as his true passion.

J has worked for many different clients including The Washington Post, The New York Times, XXL Magazine, Dazed & Confused Magazine and The Discovery and Travel Channels and IBM.

Previouslybased in Nairobi, Kenya where he covered Africa for over four years, J photographed feature assignments for a diverse group of publications including The New York Times Magazine, TIME, Newsweek, Conde Nast Portfolio, Fortune, CNN, ESPN the Magazine, Good Housekeeping, Runner's World and Le Monde.

In addition to his editorial work, J has travelled extensively for Save the Children, an international humanitarian organization, covering complex emergencies and developing humanitarian situations. He covered the drought in Ethiopia in 2006 and in 2005 he was sent to tsunami-hit Banda Aceh, Indonesia immediately after the disaster to document Save's relief efforts. In 2004 J spent several months with Save in the Darfur and Nuba Mountain regions of Sudan.
